Verses on Discipline

Job 5:17-18

Blessed is the one whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. 18 for he wounds, but he also binds up; he injures, but his hands also heal.

Proverbs 3:11-12

My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline,& do not resent his rebuke, 12 because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.

Proverbs 12:1

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, whoever hates correction is stupid.

Proverbs 15:32

Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.

Hebrews 12:7-11

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?8 if you are not disciplined-& everyone undergoes discipline-then you are not legitimate, not true sons & daughters at all. 9 moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us & we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits & live! 10 they disciplined us for a little while as they thought best;but God disciplines us for our good,in order that we may share in his holiness. 11 no discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on,however,it produces a harvest of righteousness & peace for those who have been trained by it.

1 Peter 1:14-16

As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 but just as he who called you is holy,so be holy in all you do;16 for it is written:"be holy because I am holy."

Romans 6:16-18

Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey-whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 but thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin,you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance.18 you have been set free from sin & have become slaves to righteousness.

Psalm 94:12-13

Blessed is the one you discipline, Lord, the one you teach from your law;13 you grant them relief from the days trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked.
