Verses on Giving
Good will comes to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice.
One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly but comes to poverty. 25 A generous person will proper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocritics do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.
2 Corinthians 8:7
But since you excel in everything-in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness, and in the love we have kindled in you-see that you also excel in this grace of gifting.
2 Corinthians 9:6-9
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you will abound in every good work. 9 As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”
2 Corinthians 9:10-11
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
